Installing kernel sources on Mandrake 10.0?

This should be dead simple, but I'm having trouble installing the 'official' kernel sources from RPMs.

Background: I need the kernel sources installed to compile my winmodem drivers, which only seem to work with 2.4 series. The 10.0 community ISO's don't come with sources for the 2.4.25-2mdk kernel, just the 2.6 one.

I downloaded a file called "kernel-2.4.25.2mdk-1-1mdk.src.rpm" (using my Win98 partition) from RPMfind but can't seem to get it installed. l click on the file and it brings up the "installing..." window, but then nothing end up in /usr/src/

Is there some special trick to installing the kernel sources? Is this even the right file? If not, where can I get it? Remember that I have to get it from my windows partition.

Incidently, I tried installing the generic linux-2.4.25 sources directly from kernel.org but the modem didn't work properly. I think the sources need to match the running kernel perfectly.

Its on one of the CDroms that you used to install Mandrake 10.

Go to package manager in "Configure your computer" and hit "install" then type "kernel" in the blank and hit search. It will be listed, I promise. select it and hit install.

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, it isn't there. There is a package "kernel-source-2.6.3-4mdk" but no corresponding source package for the 2.4.25-2mdk kernel I am running.

There's a few other kernel options (enterprise kernels and such) but no other kernel-source packages at all.

I am using the downloaded .iso's and have all three.

Anyway, like I said above i did download the file "kernel-2.4.25.2mdk-1-1mdk.src.rpm" but when i click it nothing seems to get installed. Is there a special way to install RPMS that have source code? Or do they get put in a strange place (instead of /usr/src/)?

Wait a minute.. I did find a file online called "kernel-source-2.4.25-2mdk.i586.rpm"

I'm downloading it now so hopefully it will work.

Use the command line to install the rpm (use rpm -Uvvh foo.rpm) and check for verbose output. Should help.

To install an rpm file, use urpmi from a root shell
In a console, do the following :
su (then give your root password)
cd /directory/of/rpm
urpmi ./kernel-source-XX.rpm (don't forget the ./)
