Installing from source code

I recently upgraded from 9.2 to 10 and now I cannot install from source code anymore. After I un tar files and go into the new directory, I type ./configure, my computer does not recognize that command(or as root). I have the kernel source code installed as well as gcc compiler. Is there a step that I am missing? Any help would be appreciated.

sorry if this sounds silly, but have you check the README? Not all sources use the .configure, make and make install route. It could be a simple sh, or a ./build_install , just throwing some other ideas to you incase you have not thought of that yet.

yeah, the README is the first thing I take a look at. But whenever it does call for me to type
./configure, the computer does not even recognize the command ./configure. It did before, and I was trying to reinstall some packages but I couldnt since the ./configure command was not even known. My computer doesnt recognize users either, but that is another story.
