auto configuration of my soundcard fails. I'm beginning to think that I don't have the exact drivers for my card. Here's what I get when I run sndconfig:

then I go to manual config, and I don't know how or if I should adjust the different values (such as port and IRQ). ANy help to put me on the right track would be appreciated. I'm using a PNP card by Crystal. The model number on the box says PT2318, which is not listed in sndconfig utility.

Just a WAG but I had success with alsaconf when draksound wouldn't work for me. It is part of the alsa-utils package.

Hey!? What the F? I installed all the alsa-related packages and then ran sndconfig and I now have sound. This is very Windowsesc - don't know what I did - there's no closure... I suppose somewhere in those packages was the right driver? Whatever!
