I am trying to install nfs-utils in Mandriva Free 2007, KDE desktop, updated, and working well besides that. Here's the error message I get :
L'installation a échoué :
/sbin/install-info is needed by krb5-workstation-1.4.3-6.1mdv2007.0.i586
/sbin/install-info is needed by krb5-workstation-1.4.3-6.1mdv2007.0.i586
The idea is being able to share files between this MDV PC, & my 2 other Ubuntu boxes, & my 3 other Vector PC's...
I can log in the Ubuntu PC's using sftp://ip address in the web browser address bar, but it doesn't work for my Vector PC's...
So I figured if I could install nfs-utils, then I could log in my MDV box from any other Linux box...
This is exactly what I have done on konsole. I also tried direct from the GUI front-end. It gives me the same message. I also tried downloading & installing those RPM's from the web, but hey won't install.
Today I am finishing downloading Powerpack 2007, and think about re-installing alltogether, as this is my main machine, and it has also a "file server" role in my network...
Reddazz, I am still on my Vector box, as my MDV PC kept on restarting, for no apparent hardware reason, so I figured, since I was re-installing anyway, why not trying something more exotic ? I am installing OpenSUSE 10.2 from the DVD... Will see you in the Suse forum, then... (that is if I decide to stick to Suse...)
Were you on windows when downloading the powerpack DVD??? If so it stops at 4gb because your filesystem is most likely Vfat (fat32) which doesn't support files larger than 4gb!!

Ohhh !!! That's why !
No, I was not in Windows, but I have 2 huge fat32 partitions that I use as a storage space.... So now I understand !
By the way, I burned a power-supply, as a result of a UPS problem (I live in a country with bad electricity). So this is what caused the persistent reboots I was mentioning in a previous post.
Thanks for the tip... I guess I'll put a new power-supply back in and download that powerpack again (this time in my ext3 partition (!!!)
That is, because out of frustration, before realizing my power-supply was bad, I could not boot in OpenSuse, so I wiped it and installed Vector, which use now... It's strange that it works with the bad power-supply... But since it is my main box, and I need my Canon iP1500 printer to work, I'll have to put back a RPM distro...
Mental!! i don't know the Dominican Republic well but sorry to hear you have power disruptions. My external harddrive are fat32 so i can read them in linux and windoze. Found the probs though when i thought i would make a mandriva backup of 4.5gb so thought i'd post here. sorry to hear bout the power, how about trying an external circuit breaker, might help to stop fcuking up ur comp!!! x
and if i was to suggest an RPM distro, use FC6. I would be but:
a: Shit for Mandriva
b: Can't get YUM working behind a proxy!!
