Well, I'd followed the instruction of kde manual: copy my favorite picture to $HOME/.kde/share/apps/kicker/pics/ and $HOME/.kde/share/apps/kicker/pics/mini/go.png , then restart kicker, but nothing changed. Does it have other restrictions such as the picture size or else? Thanks for your reply.

you need to be root to do this, so open a terminal, su to root (type su at the prompt (enter) root password (enter) ). then type konqueror (enter).

then, go to /usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/16x16/apps. look for the file called menuk-mdk.png. that's the oogly yellow star icon. rename or delete it. (i always go with renaming. it's a small file not taking up much space, & you might want it back some day.) then, choose another icon or the same size (16x16) & rename that to menuk-mdk.png. the old style KDE "K with gear" kicker icon is called kmenu.png, in that same directory, so if you rename that to menuk-mdk.png you can have the old style back. the key is use any exisiting .png file from any icon directory of the same size. restart KDE for setting to take effect.
