Geforce2 Go problem Mandriva 2006.0

Approx a central 6" square is all of the 17" display that is being used by the XORG6.9 system. I have googled on this and searched here. Although there are variations on the theme for this card under various Linux distro's, none of the fixes appear to do-it-for-me. I have tried using a few other card types to no avail - even legacy.

Also I dual boot WinME and Mandrake 7.2 at the moment. I shouldn't have trouble adding a newer Linux to tri-boot should I. After installing Mandriva 2006.0 I lost the ability to reboot all but the Mandriva 2006.0. Luckily I had some PQDImages from a couple of weeks earlier - dead lucky!

I want to use a later kernel-2.6.13-... with Mandriva free 2006.0. Is this possible?

Thanks for any help/links.

are X-Windows and XORG6.9 similar in their video settings?

Hi again all
I have Mandrake 7.2 on my laptop and it treats the video fine. However it uses the X-window system. Are X-windows and XORG6.9 similar, such that I can use the refresh rates etc from the X-Window conf file in XORG6.9?
I read somewhere that you can 'screw' a video if the wrong values are used. Thus I'm loathe to change the values.

You have to setup the boot manager. Or install it at the beginning of the Mandriva partition and not the MBR. If you put it to the MBR it will overwrite it.

Using the official updates no. There are unofficial repos though which provide newer kernels mainly backported from cooker like SeerOfSouls or thac (mde.djura.org).

X-window (without the s) was the ancestor of X.org which is used by probably all the Linux distros. They changed their license to something which violates the GPL so they have been forked and this is Xorg.
I don't know if the config file changed or not since then. You can try to compare the structure of the files. If it's similar you can give it a try.

Hmm! Thanks for the speedy reply. When I installed Mandrake 7.2 it put GRUB on the MBR. If I now install Mandriva 2006.0 it asks where I should put the boot loader. If I say 'NOT to MBR' will the 7.2 still use the MBR giving me Mandrake 7.2 AND Windows and the Mandriva 2006 from the beginning of the Mandriva 2006.0 partition? Incidentally i2006.0 partition will be past 1024 cyl.

I can't remember if it asks or you have to set up the boot loader but you can install it to the beginning of the Mandriva 2006 partition one way or another.
MBR will be used by the OS which is already there cause it won't be overwritten. If it's Mandrake 7.2 then Mandrake will still use it.
Don't bother with the 1024 cylinder limit. It doesn't matter anymore.
