Target is Dell Latitude D505. Booted Mandriva 2006 from CD 1. It went smooth until package install(disk partitioning done) and then installation failed with the following exact output:
An error occured
fatal: no hdlist nor synthesis to read for Powerpack CD2 (cdrom2)
I checked install log; it gives a lot of media error (bad sector). It looks like install media(cdrom) is somehow corrupted. I really appreciate anybody with new ideas..
Thanks for your response, Camorri. CDs were downloaded and burned by my client; but he made sure that isos checksum were ok..
Installation on a second PC also failed so I assume that media is somehow bad..
Yeah dude, the media is definitely toast. If you have the means to, download the DVD iso (just because you don't have to sit there and wait around until you have to swap out discs), and when you burn the iso to a dvd, use the SLOWEST SPEED POSSIBLE (like, 1x or 2x burning).
Yeah, it'll take a friggin long time, but I've yet to have an OS-install disc crap out on me.
