Error at boot after GRUB : last message "apm:BIOS version 1.2 flags 0x03"

hi everyone, this is a newbie using mandrake 9.2
the thread title got too long, the actualy last 2 lines were :
initializing RT netlink socket <------- unsure about the RT part, bad handwriting. can anyone confirm?
apm : BIOS version 1.2 flags 0x03 (Driver version 1.16)

and then it stops there. does anyone know what's wrong or what to do? thank you

umm, what i did was add apm=off to the boot line on grub and it worked..

indeed. i tried that too and it did work. it's just that i heard if you turn off apm you can't use some fancy stuff like scheduled on/off, hibernation, etc. is that true? is there any workaround?
