drak3d with Unichrome 3d acceleration

Hi,
When I set up mandriva, my Unichrome graphics card was identified. However, when I changed from Gnome or KDE to Drak 3d at the login screen, i ws prompted for my root password. On the Drak 3d activation screen, 3d acceleration was not clickable and I had to revert to Gnome or KDE.

This was a known issue with Mandriva with a fix. I had to add the line:

Code:
Load "dri"
to the module section of /etc/xii/xorg.conf.
When i did this and rebooted the computer, I was prompted to insert the Mandriva DVD, at which stage 3d files were installed. So far so good.

At the log in screen I selected Drak3d and logged in. I was prompted for the root password as I was going to be activating 3d. This time on the Drak 3d screen, I was able to click 3d acceleleration.

When I did this I was told to log out and hit

Code:
ctrl, alt and backspace
before logging in again. I did this simutaneously which i assume was correct and the screen went blank for a second before appearing again and I logged in using drak3d.
However, i was prompted for the root password again, taken to the drak3d configuration menu and told to log out, ctrl, alt, backspace all over again.

I cant seem to get by this onto a 3d desktop. Can anyone help? You seem to have managed to solve all of my other problems.I now have a great Linux system up and running, bar the 3d bit which would be nice to have.

thanks,
tim

When you go to log back in, just make sure that you have changed your session from drak3d to either KDE or Gnome at the GDM/KDM sign on screen.

SIS Unichrome and 3d? Fat chance. My info is a bit out of date, maybe.
Last I remember hearing is that the SIS chips did not cope with 3d. It is a low end chip for typing pool desktops. If you want 3d under Linux, then the only way to go is with nvidia cards, and the genuine nvidia drivers.
Very few onboard type graphics chips are capable of any decent 3d performance. Have the same chips onboard, in my server and my laptop. Neither of these machines has any 3d capability. Does not worry me, as these machines are not for gaming. For genuine 3d graphics, use a dedicated AGP or PCIX 3d card. Nothing else will suffice.
