Changing splash screen in 10.2

I was wondering if anyone knows how to change the splash screen for Mandrive 10.2 limited edition. I hate that penguin booting up.

I found a directory where the images were kept and tried to put a different image in and rename it to the old one. That didn't work for some reason.

10.1 I don't remember any pinguin either on the Lilo boot screen or the bootsplash when Mandrake is loading...

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 Mar 14 02:38 silent-1024x768.jpg -> bootsplash-1024x768.jpg
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 Mar 14 02:38 silent-1280x1024.jpg -> bootsplash-1280x1024.jpg
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 Mar 14 02:38 silent-1600x1200.jpg -> bootsplash-1600x1200.jpg
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 Mar 14 02:38 silent-800x600.jpg -> bootsplash-800x600.jpg

the files are link, however, and that may be your problem... but not sure if your tring to chang the bootloader spash or the acutal linix bootspash...

Thanks I will check it out a little more.

Version 10.2 Got an ugly penguin that looks spaced out. Why they used that picture I'll never know?

Do you know the file I can edit? I will do a little more research on this, just for kicks.

THANKS!!

there is an rpm that has some better looking ones. I loaded "bootsplash-themes" and it gives you better options. From that I figured out the settings for location of text boxes and menus. It's pretty easy to make your own. Also look at http://www.bootsplash.org/user.html

Hope this helps

I removed the splash sceen in GRUB easily: As root, I changed to the /boot/grub directory and wiht a text editor altered the menu.lst file to remove "vga=788" and the ugly penguin disappeared.
