Just wanted to pass along that Call of Duty 1.4 runs awesome on Mandrake 10.1CE. I had it installed under Slackware and could never get it to run in single player mode. I just installed Mandrake 10.1CE and Call of Duty (with the LOKI installer) works flawlessly. I played multiplayer online for over an hour and it never even burped. Not sure why it wouldn't run better under Slackware but it's great in Mandrake.
It depends on the game. Many games have linux versions. Some are windows versions that have Linux installers that make them work on Linux. Still others are Windows games that must be installed with WINEX/Cedega. Call of Duty is a Windows game that LOKI has produced an installer for. The installer assumes that you have Cedega installed. The game will not run if Cedega is not already installed.
The only glitch I have found with COD 1.4 is that Punk Buster sites kick me off with "inadequate OS priveledges" after about 5mins so I have to play on non-PB servers. No big deal, there are plenty of them.

You could try changing your permissions and set it so that you can read and write to that folder only, that may fix the punkbuster problem.
