Booting

Hey guys,

I just installed Linux Mandrake LE 2005 and after I entered my login details at the local host box a RED SCREEN appears.

I then did ctrl + alt + backspace to get me to a command prompt where I put my login details in again, however I do not know what to do now

A red screen with a taskbar?
That means you logged in as root. Did you create a user when you were installing?

Or just a plain red screen?

Go to the menu and start up the Configure Your Computer app and add a user.
Then log out and back in as the user.

It's just a different login manager/display manager.
Can you log into any kind of desktop?

You are not really supposed to log in as root for day to day purposes due to security issues and the risk of hosing your system. When you installed Mandriva/Mandrake, you should have seen an option to create a user. Thats the user that you need to login as.

How do I get to the desktop so I can start using mandrake instead of being confronted by a blue screen?
