autodetect my USB-printer

Hi

I was just wondering if there's any 'autodetect' program in Mandrake?

My printer is hooked up to my USB port.

well you may have to take additional measures to get it to work, so lets start by you stating what type of printer you have ?

well,

the printer I have is a HP deskjet 3550,
I cant find this in the list anyways,

but I was going to try generic drivers for it.

But basically what I need to know, is how to point to the usb port from lpd.

I was assuming there'd be an autodetect program in Mandrake.

well what list are you referring to when you say you can't find it ?
just because of the generality of your statement i would assume you mean the linuxprinting.org list, and if so, then
read this as it is there ...

well...

that was exactly what I did try,

but once I've actually installed the files I downloaded, there's still no entrys for my 3550 printer.

awhole bunch of other desk jet's are thou...

but I read about this particular problem from someone elses post, and so , once I get a CD with a newer Mandrake, it'll probably work.
