APM fails on boot & MCC/drakconf.real require root login

Hey...

I'm relatively new to linux (mandrake) and have two questions.

1. Somewhere along the line Advanced Power Managment begen failing on boot (it's tha only failure). Now when I log out it sends me to a quasi-GUI interface with no shutdown option (or reboot), only a space to type username and password. So, in order to shutdoun i need to go to the konsole, log in as root and type the shutdown command (i use KDE, by the way).
Looking for suggestions on how to fix this(plz give lots of details)

2. i was messing arround trying to figure out sharing between windows (XP) and linux (which i still don;t have how i'd like, diffrent issue) and i now get a message like ...

no permission to accsess..... usr/sbin/drakconf.real......login as root

Was this allways like this? or is there a way to chance permisions/sequrities so this doesn't happen?

Thanks for your help.

And you are using what version of Mandrake?

K-> Configuration-> Control Center-> System-> Login Manager-> sessions tab

Click on the Administrator Mode tab at the bottom, give it the root password, then:

Under 'Allow Shutdown' in Console set it to everybody, the Remote part set it to only root.

Click on OK to exit out of root mode, close the control center, then try and shutdown or reboot as a user.

- is APM still enabled in your services? (drakxtools>system>drakxservices)

- maybe you set the level of security too high?

- have you tried to create a shortcut to "halt" on your desktop?

- if nothing works: try to recompile kernel. disbale APM in kernel when configuring and disable it in services too. now include ACPI in your compile (just under APM in the config menu). enable ACPI in lilo.

In drakperm maybe (drakxtools>security)
