I certainly wouldn't want to be a mod, but it would be nice to know how one becomes a mod, do you have to ask? are you reccomended? is it bazed on rep/number of posts, just curious really

Thanks everyone. I realized I've been on these forums for a LONG time when I started talking with Jeremy about becoming a mod. Hopefully I don't mess up too bad.
I will confess: Jeremy asked me if I wished to be a mod. I declined, as much as I do love LQ and support it in as many other ways as I can, as it is the friendliest, most welcoming Linux place on the inner tubes (and we should thank Jeremy every day for making it happen).
In my other life, I am a political blogger and, in my own little (and little-noticed) way, an activist. At this point in time, I am as upset as I have ever been.
I come here to unwind, not to wind. Computers make sense; politics and people don't. This is my oasis of, for the most part, logic and clarity.
I was unwilling to make the commitment. I commend you who have. You are better, more selfless persons than I.

Reason: Clarity.

In a way, I chose to accept as my way of giving back. I've been here 13 years, and never been a contributing member. This way, I can do something to give back at least SOMETHING.
Giving back is good. Whenever you answer a Linux Question, you are giving back; modding even moreso. I congratulate you. (evil grin) I shall endeavor never to give you a reason to moderate me!
Giving back is one reason I started to contribute posts, once I learned enough about Linux to do so (realizing that I had reached that point quite surprised me, by the way).
LQ helped me; I figured I should repay the favor. (Revealing selfish self-interest) I worked out that, if I could manage three posts a day, in a year, I might make "member." And it somehow just snowballed.
Plus, answering questions is a great way to learn. And it's fun to (try to) help people!
