Why cant I subtract Reputation from smartass comments!

Nice site you got going here, very helpful. One thing i noticed reading comments to threads is an over-abundance of douche bag comments about typing, knowledge, etc. I know it is impossible to stop behavior like this but we at least need a way to discourage this. My suggestion is to have a subtract from reputation button for those who habitually post insulting and loser comments. Thanks.

One of the reasons you probably think this is a nice site is almost everything is readable and can be understood. Spelling and sentence structure make this possible.

As with any open forum or work place you will have people try to 'outdo' others and just wait for the chance to criticize others. As mentioned above the best action is to find their post not helpful.

These type of comments only fuel the fire and do not help.

One of my suggestions is look at their prior posts and see what they entered and see if they criticize in them then they may be easier for you to ignore.

And most of all try and do the best you can at sentence structure and spelling on your future posts.

The best is all I ever give! Of course they do not help, but it does convey my true feelings toward the content of some posters comments.

Your use of that term may inhibit a lady from using a product or device based on a stigma. Consider a different term please.

All joking aside, this is a wonderful repository for information and helpful knowledge for noobs and experienced users. I appreciate all the comments good and bad.

Regardless of your personal feelings toward my conjecture my request is still valid. You want to be rewarded for a good post, right? Then the opposite should hold true for bad posts; a deduction from your reputation for condescending remarks!

I think that it is a bit premature for someone who only recently signed aboard to want to penalize other members for any reason. I believe that you swampf0x should get to know the place and the customs before you start handing out penalties.

The reputation system hasn't been implemented for very long. People who have been contributing here for years are still getting used to it. So far it seems that most posts are not rated at all and only particularly helpful or particularly unhelpful posts receive any rating at all. This seems to be a good approach. Those of us who have been contributing for a long time deeply resent a negative rating if a post was simply not helpful. That is a good way to quickly be added to my ignore list. On the other hand a light hearted joke is sometimes appropriate even though jokes appear to be officially discouraged.

My approach is to ignore most of the posts that I don't like. I don't think of myself as an etiquette enforcer. I usually just walk away from an ignorant comment.

You will acquire a better sense of the culture after you have been hanging out here for several years. Then you might develop a different attitude toward penalizing other members. If after several years of contributing to the forums you still feel as though you want to enforce rules and penalize people then you may want to ask Jeremy if you can become a moderator.
