@ Archtoad,

While further replies from Jeremy may be pending, may I suggest AdBlock (assuming you run a browser that supports it, of course)?

Pretty easy to use AdBlock to disable (remove) the animated smilies from your screen. :-)

Unfortunately that would be fairly difficult to implement in the current setup, so we have no plans to do so at this time.
