Networking Basics

Hi Everyone,

I am a new to Linux and to this forum. I've decided to make the jump from Windows to Linux. I have this laptop that I installed Fedora Core 4 on it. I have both GNOME and KDE installed as the GUIs. Everything works great except for one little thing: I cannot get on the internet. Now I have done all of the googling and searching and I finally found this one google search link that will eventually bring me here. It was under the "Linux Wiki" link called Networking Basics. (Actually I was at work when I found this link). I was so excited that I had finally found what I was looking for. It showed me step-by-step of how to configure my internet connecting. So like a dummy, I didn't print the link. I copied and pasted the web link and email to myself so when I got home I can pull it up. When I got home, I tried to pull up the link and it came up "Page cannot not be displayed." I've tried this several times before I called up some of my friends to pull up the website and gave them the same thing. Right now I am a little frustrated. So I come to you guys to see if you can help me out.

I have BellSouth DSL with DHCP

When I type in ifconfig or ifconfig -a, I get the loopback address (127.0.0.1) as my IP address.

Now when I read the web link earlier today, I saw to get my ethernet card to work, I had to type something like this in:
********* eth0 up
I cannot remember that command for nothing.

Please help

This was the website. If anyone can bring this up on their computer, please copy and paste in an open office document and email it to me or just simply reply back. I would greatly appreciate this.

My email address is:

Thanks

still down- it says socket error.

I guess since there's that conference going on at the moment, jeremy won't be around to kick a server or whatever.

have a good time at the conference jeremy, and hope the wiki problem is easy to fix when you get back.
