Remember, we had bulletin board in our schools with thought of the day?
Going on similar lines, I'd like to propose 'Command of the day'. Everyday, LQ should pick up one unix/linux command from the command library and put up a small general intro on what the command does (may be 3-4 lines), its syntax and couple of examples of the command usage. Of course, LQ may extract text from the man pages itself, but these pages don't have usage examples, so this is where LQ can be really helpful to members (many of whom r newbies)..So basically the language would be easier than the man pages and not too much in detail, just to have a recall of commands...
I browse LQ usually everyday and most of us tend to lose syntax of commands that we dont use that often. The command library is huge, so its not possible to remember every command. If I was to read about a command while doing my daily LQ browsing, it would benefit me more than if I had to open up a man page for a command everyday..
It's a great idea, though it is much work making it continuously.
Maybe it could be a short banner like area on the entry page. That way you could set up a database table with a collection of command entries. This could be randomly selected either day by day or at every visit.
With that solution you would be able to enter 10-15 commands when you get inspired or get time. You could even have a command request form to request a certain command.
I have to agree with LinuxLala, something like this could be easily implemented in the Wiki where anyone can contribute, edit, update, etc. A task like this on the forum would be near impossible for someone to keep up with unless something that was pulled from a database each day to display, etc.

Yes, that would be cool.
I love the funny names of unix commands, and seeing one picked everyday at the top of the screen would tickle my fancy. Hehe... I dreamed last night that I grepped a gawk. (No joke)

When I did heavy website design at one time, I use to dream in html code.. it was sickening..
I like this command of the day type thing, but I still feel it should be implemented in the Wiki.. Or maybe just make it command of the week type thing.
Even if you were to make it a "command of the week", in that case it would require some more detailed stuff about the command..Command of the day is assumed to be brief... I wouldn't mind either of those..

Uhhh... you're telling me... a few nights ago, my mom was complaining that I was talking about compiling star office in my sleep. No, I'm not kidding. My problem with the wiki is that it isn't promoted enough. Only 1/8 of everyone seems to know about it.
How about a random man page! That wouldn't be too hard. But, start with grep, it's the greatest command ever
Make sure you have lots of neat <<'s, <'s, >'s, >>'s, and |'s.
