Stupid newbe again

I have to be the stupidest person on this planet when it comes to computers!!
I like most people spend my life fighting with windows cause its such a pain in the a**e
I was told about linux by my natropath (after getting some natural calming stuff) that I should try linux she said it works and dosent keep eating stuff and generaly f**king everything up the way windosw dose (I got windows 2000)

So is it true ????

If so can you get stuff from places like tucows, downloads.com etc that will work on the linux system???

Will thing like McAfee, 12 gohst pop up killer, ad aware, Nero CD burner work with it or will I have to dive into my very small wallet to get other stuff???

I know that all these sorts of question are answerd somewher here on this planet but I cant find em so if sombody can point me in the right direction I would be a very happy boy with out having to drug myself

Thanks in advance .

John

www.sourceforge.net and www.freshmeat.net are 2 of the main download sites for Linux. There is a version of Nero for Linux, but you need a registered Windows copy to activate it (we also have XCDRoast and K3B which come with all distros), Firefox has an inbuilt pop up killer, we only need a virus guard if we're passing files to Windows, there is currently no spyware for Linux.

And welcome to LQ
