I have wireless LAN card ( WL - 8305 vendor: Planet Technology Corp., Windows detects it as GL2422VP (???)) and i do not know how to configure it on Linux ( i have aurox 9.4 with kde and redhat-network-configure installed ). Furthermore i have on CD drivers for this card with application ( WLANmonitor etc.) but for Win98/Me/XP. Could i use this drivers on Linux (and how?). In redhat-network-configure this card doesn't appear and there's no "button" to install other card from drivers. This is too much for me.
Hi! I have the same card - Planet WL-8305.
I've tried installing it, as is mentioned in "acx100 howto" by Craig Fileds (http://www.houseofcraig.net/acx100_howto.php), but it doesn't work in Mandrake 10.0.
I didn't try it for other linux distro.

wake up and read more carefully.
back to the question.... I looked up the card here and it shows it having a TI chipset.
I don't have any personal experience with that kind of card.
Most of my googling turned up non-english language sites, so they are of little help (to me).

[qoute]If you think I helped then click the affero button
If all else fails: "rm -rf /"

If you don't know what it does
Please don't do it! or you'll

w33k, Windows drivers are indeed used under Linux under certain circumstances. If you have any spare time between spelling lessons and unhelpful posts, please take a look at ndiswrapper and Linuxant.
squark, If you've followed the instructions listed in the houseofcraig link and are still having problems, post the specific errors or symptoms.
The TI driver works great in Red Hat. If you decide to try using that card in Linux use the acx100 sourceforge driver and not the ndiswrapper with the windows driver if you can.
Setting up the driver is not as easy as in Windows, as you seem fairly new to the Linux scene, but I get better speed over my TI acx100 based pci wireless lan card than in Windows.
Here are a few things you may like to know before starting:
1) the Red Hat (or Fedora) wireless utility will not work with the acx100 driver (http://acx100.sourceforge.net NOTE: Use alternate download location http://lisas.de/~andi/acx100/)
2) Most instructions online help people with PCMCIA cards...which DOES have wireless support built in.
3) There is no standard setup for wireless PCI cards...at least not that I know of. (please prove me wrong if I am wrong.)
4) The acx100 driver works, but sometimes it does require some troubleshooting to get it too work with most setups?!
If you are interested in setting up the acx100.sourceforge.net driver, I am willing to help. I've installed this driver on Red Hat 9, Fedora Core 1, Slackware 10 (current), and Vector Linux 4.0 SOHO. Just so you know...its worked on all of these equally well, but each disto has had its own setup problems....Red Hat and Fedora were by far the easiest.
http://www.houseofcraig.net/acx100_howto.php is where I got most of the info I needed to get things working, but sometimes even that can be a little confusing, so set aside a few nights to get this working (hopefully it will only take an hour or less) to get this going, and post any problems on linuxquestions.org.
I can try to help you step by step...but I can't guarantee that I'll be online at the same time as you. Also, if it is an acx111 card....which I would have to check, then I cannot guarantee success...at least not without doing the unthinkable and using the windows driver + ndiswrapper.
I used this manual acx100_howto and copied all of my drivers from my wLan CD: RADIO0d.BIN RADIO11.BIN WLANGEN.BIN. I had no RADIO15.BIN and TIACX111.BIN so I copied TIACXLN.INI and TIACXLN.SYS ( i think i does not matter so much ). Everything I configured went almost exactly as in the manual ( I had some problems, but I solved it by copying missing insmod, iwconfig in the right directory :P ). When I run the script ./start_net, module is loaded successfully and all is ok. The problem begins when I want to use ping command. Return(?) packets i have when i connect to my ID (192.162.3.57)that I have written in resolv.conf and also when IP is my router broadcast IP - 192.162.3.255. When in ping command I write boradcast IP it is the only time when light at the back of PCI card blinks ( 4 times for 4 packets of data - I think). Ping also doesn't work for other IP's or host like aol.com or sth. I have configured everything exactly ( expect drivers - but as i worte higher i dont think it does matter, i copied all drivers i had on my CD), it toke myhalf a day and i now it's real pain in the ass that it doesn't work as i wanted to :P. Wish for help.
If you dont want (or dont know how) to help do not repost ok? Could you respect the fact that somebody could be new and not to know the things that for others are clear? It think that linuxquestions.org was created to help other users, not to laugh cause newbie dont know something, you got that straight? And, for your information - there is a possibility to use Windows's drivers on Linux - i checked it and now i know. Sincerely your, NewbieSquark.
I had no RADIO15.BIN and TIACX111.BIN so I copied TIACXLN.INI and TIACXLN.SYS
What do you mean you copied these files? Only copy the firmware files you have on the cd. These are specific to how your card are set up I believe. This caused me a lot of trouble before.
Also are you logged in as root to do this??? Things like insmod are usually only in your "path" when logged in as "root"...not "su". Same for iwconfig I think.
Would you mind checking the output of "ifconfig -a" and post this info if possible...the important part would be TX Errors or something like that. That will tell if the card is transmitting or not....errors here generally mean improper driver installation or....more likely....firmware problems.
Also check to see that iwconfig reports the proper MAC for the Access Point. If it is all 0's then this is also a hint towards what the problem is.
So if you want to try something, get rid of firmware files that didn't come with your driver. Thats a good starting point for now.
oudent: According to your question - i had copied all my firmware files from CD. Problem with no existance of files like insmod is not a problem at all, it is not important where is that file, important is that shell finds it anf it works:P
Also, as you said, i checked ifconfig -a and this is my result:
