Unhappy suse 9.3 and Intel 2915ABG

Okay, I'm new to Linux -I downloaded opensuse 9.3 and installed it just fine. I have an AOpen 1557 laptop machine with a built-in Wistron BCM4401 NIC and the Intel Centrino 2915ABG chipset. Yast found both of my NICs. The Intel 2915ABG NIC installed correctly. And it seems just fine from iwconfig and Yast. Kinternet and other applications recognise the new interface(s). I had a hard time making the BCM44 work at first - DHCP didn't work regardless of the settings. However my wireless connection is nowhere to be "found" - so to speak. I cannot find a single network, and I have two of my own (WRT54G). I have tried disabling the BCM44 - leaving the wireless the only network interface on my system. I have updated using Susewatcher.

I have read the IPW2200.sf.net pages and downloaded firmware and drivers. Only I have a little trouble understanding where to put them if I have to - I understand SuSE has it's own system of paths(?) I've already identified that I have ieee80211, ipw2200 files on my system - maybe they're no good with my kernel (2.6.11.4-21.8) or PC hardware?
Anyway, I really don't know what to look for - can somebody out there please help me?

Problem solved

I found the solution to my problem! All I needed was the acerhk software to enable the wireless on/off switch. Have a look here and here. The software for the acerhk can be found here.
