Hi, please help me figure this out: my wireless pcmcia card, which used to work out of the box on suse 9.1, is not working on suse 9.2. I get an IP address, I can even connect to my wireless router's configuration page, but I can't connect to the internet at all. I tried manually setting the DNS addresses and default gateway but that didn't work. I always get the following error:
ERROR: command 'iwconfig eth1 nick linux' returned
Error for wireless request "Set Nickname" (8B1C) :
SET failed on device eth1 ; Operation not supported.
How can it not support setting up the nickname? Faulty drivers maybe??
oh, my card is a 3com office connect
thx
Your symptoms sound similar to what I was experiencing immediately after installing 9.2. It was resolved for me by downing both the ethernet and wireless and then uping the wireless. On my system it is as follows:
As root:
ifdown eth0
ifdown wlan0
ifup wlan0
The post that I got this from said something about the ethernet overriding the wireless.
nope sorry. I sort of gave up. My best theory was that it was driver related. I found a similar post in another forum and the reply was that driver x.x.x (some version) didn't support iwconfig command and that a new one did support it. So I got the latest atmel driver, but I had some problems with it and I simply couldn't install it. Also, I think suse 9.1 doesn't use that command in its scripts and that is why the card does work with it.
