Question Oricoco Gold WLAN card - configure for SuSE 9.2?

Friday I loaded SuSE 9.2 onto two Dell laptops, a C600 and D600. I'm installing Orinoco Gold WLAN cards tomorrow. I've been tod these are more or less "plug and play" tho I gather it'll be necessary to configure through YaST. Anyone have any helpful tips for this newbie?

This is a fairly obvious statement but after a weekend of messing around with SuSE, I have to say it is my favorite OS ever. I'll keep using the Mac as a digital jukebox/recoring studio, and I have to use Winders because I work in Big Corproate America, but Linux SuSE 9.2 kicks a$$. It

ORiNOCO Gold Classic cards are as plug & play as it gets in Linux. There are subsequent versions of cards that carry the ORiNOCO label which are far less so. Make sure of the model you're getting.

Yeah, it's an Orinoco (or ORiNOCO Classic Wireless Gold Card). So I guess this means I'm all right, then -- so after configuring YaST the
thing will just do whatever wireless cards are designed to do and work?

You should be fine. YaST is quite good at that sort of thing.

Hi there,

Another Noobie here with Suse 9.2 and wireless. I have been trying to get wireless working with Suse for some time now, with no success.

I have tried all sorts of things, I have bought and am using a 'Fully installed' 9.2 Professional SUSE, with a variety of different cards, in different machines, all to no avail!

I have PCMCIA, USB and PCI 802.11g wireless cards, all on the supported list as far as I am aware, SUSE sees the cards, describes what they are, but does not configure them! I was hoping for 'plug & play' simplicity but it hasn't worked out that way for me. I already use wireless, with the same cards and Windows XP, all works fine, so its not the hardware or the LAN.

The cards I have are all PRISM II I believe, I have been to the WLAN site and the Belkin PCI card I have is definitely on the supported list, the exact same model type and everything.

I have posted questions about this a couple of times at linuxquestions with very helpful responses but have not cracked it so far.

I think I am getting something pretty basic wrong, but as the cards are all seen, I do not think it is an issue with the 'kernal' configuration? PCMCIA, USB & PCI cards are all 'seen', I try to configure them manually in KDE - but nothing! Also the PCMCIA card lights do not work, if I select to insert the cards 'manually' & so on.....

Any thoughts appreciated.

Joe
