I Just Simply Can't Configure My Wireless Card

Hi.
I have been working in the configuration of my wireless 802.11b card. No matter what I do, it won't connect to the internet. The card is working, is lighting up and when I use the Iwconfig command I get the following:
wconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

sit0 no wireless extensions.

wlan0 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"default"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.437GHz Access Point: 00:0D:88:20:2F:92
Bit Rate:11Mb/s Tx-Power:28 dBm Sensitivity=0/3
RTS thr:2346 B Fragment thr:2344 B
Encryption keyff
Power Managementff
Link Quality:100/100 Signal level:-10 dBm Noise level:-256 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

All the information seems to be correct. The MAC address is consistent with the router's, the ESSID seems to be consistent too.
When I try to bring the network up with the command dhcpcd wlan0
it displays an error message just like this:
dhcpcd wlan0
DI-514:~ # wlan0
wlan0 configuration:
wlan0
ERROR: No configuration found for wlan0

Can I please get some help with this issue? I am really new at linux, so is probably something wrong I am doing.

Thank you
Enrique Hoyos

I am having a nearly identical problem with my linksys wireless g card. iwconfig and ifconfig show the card is up and communicating with the ap, but dhcpcd returns the error message ERROR: No configuration found for wlan0. I do not have eth0 set up (because I will not be using the ethernet port) Yast will not recognize the card, but I created a profile for wlan-bus-pcmcia. Still cannot connect to the internet. I am pretty frustrated, since I am pretty sure its something simple, can anyone help?

Thanks,

Roland

Are you sure you're using "dhcpcd" and not "dhcpd"? I tore my hair out for days before I realized I was using the wrong command. Also, you can specify options manually for dhcpcd instead of just using "dhcpcd wlan0"
Try:
Code:
dhcpcd -t 10 -d wlan0
That specifies device wlan0 with a timeout of 10 seconds in case you can't get an IP.
You can also try dhclient wlan0. And somebody just got an IP using their "ifcfg-wlan0" script. But I'm not sure if ifcfg scripts are in all distros--they may be a Mandrake thing. See this thread for more info on that:

Hope this helps.

I am using dhcpcd command. I am getting an IP address, just not able to connect to the internet. I saw something on another post about route command. I will try that and post back if it works.

Thanks
