Different connectivity with different OS

Hi

I have a PC with mepis 6.5 installed and recently I also install mepis 7. The former is based on Ubuntu and the latter on Debian. Under 6.5 my wifi connection is generally no less than 80% and is very stable. Under 7.0 however it is rarely more than 50% and continually drops although it does immediately restart itself.

I find this odd as obviously the NIC and Hub are the same distance apart. It must be the driver as; this apart from the OS; is the only thing that different.

Can anyone give me an explanation for this?

The two versions are based on different packages and have a different development history.
