dial-up networking with cdma2000 terminal

i want to dial-up to my isp using cdma2000 terminal but found that no /dev/modem file exists on my linux 9. i tried statserial and received TCIOMGET error. i tried using wvdial and was told that the default connection had an error and no /dev/modem file existed. how do i correct the problem? i used minicom and wanted to set the serial port but discovered instead that i had wrongly set my internal modem.
will really like to receive help on the above. i get a cannot probe modem using the connection wizard also. so, anyone who can help me out out there?

You can try creating a symlink to your modem device to /dev/modem with a command like this:

ln -s /dev/<actual-modem> /dev/modem

But what kind of modem is this? Usually by default if Linux detects the modem, it will create this device for you and link it, etc. I have a feeling you got a winmodem and it might not work without proper drivers if any exist and some configuring on your part, etc.

Check www.linmodems.org for more details if you do have a winmodem.
