Exclamation Configuring my network connection / SuSE9.1

Good Evening,

Let me preface by saying that I am a linux n00b. I am running SuSE 9.1 on my Averatec Notebook. I have a requirement to hook up to a network that has to meet a certain criteria. I need assistance with some aspects. I do not have a problem configuring this on a winbox, I am just not sure where to go to do it in SuSE. Shell or YaST... don't care.... :

Static IP: (not a problem)
SubMask: (not a problem)
Default Gateway: [need help]
DNS [need help]
alt DNS [need help]
WINS [need help]
alt WINS [need help]

If anyone can help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your time,
Bruce

This should be straight forward using SuSE's YaST2 GUI
Start YaST
Click on Network Devices in left Pane
Click on Network Card on right Panel
GUI should be simple for everything except WINS

Linux doesn't use WINS unless you are using SAMBA to access/provide "shares".
(And mine work without me setting WINS.)

I agree it should be that straight forward, but there is a difference between naming conventions... When I go to properties of the TCP/IP in win, it actually has a field called "DNS".... in YaST, it has a screen that says Host Name - Domain name. Ok, the Domain / host name is easy enough... Then under that area, you have Name Servers + Domain search list. Let's say that this is the information that I need to enter into Linux.... (This is how win describes it in ipconfig /all) This is exactly how the win machine that I am working on at this moment is configured. I only changed the names / numbers. If you (or someone) could guide me through getting this information into my Linux box, I would be ever so grateful.

host name................................: mybox
Primary DSN Suffix....................: thenet-arcade.jedi.net
Node Type................................: Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled...................: No
WINS Proxy Enabled.................: No
DNS Suffix Search List...............: thenet-arcade.jedi.net
jedi.net

Connection-Specific DNS Suffix..:
Description................................: network card
Physical Address.......................: 00-AA-00-AA-00-AA
DHCP Enabled...........................: No
IP Address................................: 999.99.999.999
Subnet Mask.............................: 888.888.888.888
Default Gateway.......................: 777.77.777.777
DNS Servers..............................: 666.66.666.66
666.66.66.55

Thank you for your time,
Bruce

host name................................: mybox
Goes on 'Host Name' of 'Host name and name server'
Primary DSN Suffix....................: thenet-arcade.jedi.net
Goes on 'Domain Name' of 'Host name and name server'

Node Type................................: Hybrid
Does not apply

IP Routing Enabled...................: No
Means don't check the 'Enable IP Forwarding' box on 'Routing'

WINS Proxy Enabled.................: No
Does not apply.

DNS Suffix Search List...............: thenet-arcade.jedi.net
jedi.net
Goes in 'Domain Search 1' on 'Host name and name server'

Connection-Specific DNS Suffix..:
Description................................: network card
Does not need to be set.

Physical Address.......................: 00-AA-00-AA-00-AA
Does not need to be set - will use the hardware's physical address by default.
(could this from command line using 'ifconfig' but such hackery is obscure.)

DHCP Enabled...........................: No
Is radio button on 1st "Network Device" page - click 'Static address setup'

IP Address................................: 999.99.999.999
On on 1st "Network Device" page
Subnet Mask.............................: 888.888.888.888
On on 1st "Network Device" page
Default Gateway.......................: 777.77.777.777
Field of that name on 'Routing'
DNS Servers..............................: 666.66.666.66
666.66.66.55
Name Server1 & Name Server2
on 'Host name and name server'
