broadcom wifi issues. almost there...
Ok, folks. I'm trying not to do the typical newbie post or windows fanboy post here so bear with me.
I have a gate way 7510gx amd 64 laptop with an internal broadcom BCM4318chipset.
That's not the problem anymore I think... lemme splain.
I have SuSe 10.0 64 bit runs everything but the wifi card great. I've spent a few days with ndiswrapper to no avail trying everything from 32 bit to 64 bit drivers including some other manufactures drivers that are close in design. Short story is didn't work, so I downloaded linuxant's driverloader and that worked great, wifi is up and I can see all the networks in my neighborhood. I can scan and theoretically it'll connect to my AP....
Here's my issue, I've gone ahead and set everything up static for my wlan0 interface. I've ifdown'd eth0 and the only routes are my network 192.155.155.0, the default 169. network and the lo network. default gateway 192.155.155.1.
k... The routing appears to be correct... the interface seems to be ok. The driver seems to work and it "appears" as best as linux will tell me that it actually connects to my AP. Yet... I still get "Destination host unreachable" when I ping my gateway. Really irritating.
Also a little about my wireless setup. There are a handful of other devices using the AP including another identical windows laptop with the same wifi card. I do NOT use any encryption only mac address filtering so that is not an issue.
My iwconfig shows nothing about the access point like others have(perhaps I have a different version, who knows), but it shows that encryption is off. The fact that there is no data for signal quality, link quality, etc suggests that it infact is not associated with my AP.
As far as I can tell it's a 802.11 problem, not an ethernet problem.
A little background on myself since this is one of my first serious posts here...
I'm a windows guy have been for a good 15 years. I run a technology company and we deal solely in microsoft products. Well, I'm trying to turn away from that, and thus I've been forcing myself to try linux.
That being said, I'm not a networking noob nor am I newb to coding and compiling. I understand how linux works in the big picture, but I gotta be honest, this little thing is really kicking my butt and any help you could give me would be greatly apprecaited.
Back on track. It basically acts as if there's no route out of the computer itself(which is odd...)... I shouldn't get a destination host unreachable(as if there's no escape from the network) when I'm trying to ping the gateway of my network, 1 hop here kids, not that hard... lol
I want to take my laptop over and introduce it to my gateway router, let them get acquainted because that's about how frustrated I am.
AAAAaaanyway. Please help.
