Broadcom STA "fun" - Slackware

Hello,

I have recently upgraded my system from Slackware 13.1 to 13.37, all is working fine, I'm running on the 2.6.37.6-smp "huge" kernel (didn't have the time to recompile), the problem appears when I'm trying to install the Broadcom STA driver. I tried the package from slackbuilds and compiled manually, when I modprobe the module the result is the same:

Code:
FATAL: Error inserting wl (/lib/modules/2.6.37.6-smp/kernel/extra/wl.ko): Invalid module format
and "dmesg" says:

Code:
[ 2454.628570] wl: version magic '2.6.37.6 SMP mod_unload CORE2 ' should be '2.6.37.6-smp SMP mod_unload 686 '
Any ideas?

Version magic errors mean the kernel has caught you out trying to pull a fast one. In this case, one is compiled 686 and one core2. I guess you have a core2? These's often a --build= option.

Solved after recompiling my kernel and not using the one that came with Slack 13.37, I wonder if there are other solutions to this.

That was the way to go. A recompile is best of the available options.
