If not, then you will want to look at your dns(resolver) settings.

What did you search? Because the first result searching for 'yum could not resolve' turns up quite a few suggestions relating to general network setup.

Here's the result of the ping:

Yes,I think it seems to be a general VmWare network setup, but since I am new to virtualization,,that's why I am asking Thanks.

First of all in vmware network adapter setting should be Bridge. All the above output is correct because you haven't properly configure the network yet.

and did you plug in the ethernet cable
or use a USB dongle

VM's and built in wireless have issues -- they do not work
the "virtual install" sees only a wired connection from a bridge

OK after change this, Check again whether any IP address is assigned to your VM. If not assigned try to restart network service again (#service network restart) and check (#ifconfig)
Even after all these your VM not get any IP address from your DHCP better post your network interface configuration
#cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

Hi,

Please try to ping from Host to Guest System and from Guest to Host System.
This issue seems due to Internet connectivity in Guest (CentoS System)

I tried to find which ip address the VM has picked up by applying the command: "arp -an" but no result appeared on screen! Is that the true command fro finding the assigned ip address?

By the way,the other commandcat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0) gave me: no such file or directory.

Thanks..

Post the following output here
1. #ip a
2. #ls -l /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* (if you find anything like ifcfg-eth0 or ifcfg-eth1) then
3. #cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth*
