... why is this so hard?

I've got one VApp in one VDC and I want to make two exact copies of one virtual machine that is now in it. That's it. The entire hard-drive content from one machine should be replicated into a new one. (I can easily adjust network settings and so-forth after that step is done.)

[iWhy[/i] is this difficult? How is it done? I need, 'step by step by step, and fast.'

This is at an "inexpensive"

cloud data center over which I have no control.

alternatively what tools are you using for backups?

We use veeam which gives great options for restoring a copy of the vm
