Xv Neomagic Xfree86 4.3.0 and mplayer

Alright, I've been complaining long and hard about the state of DVD playback on my laptop for a long while now....

However, recently I finally managed to get -xv functionality working in Mplayer, there's just one problem...

While the image quality and playback speed using Xv is superb, the image itself is screwed up, its wrapped around so-to-speak, there's an inch-wide stripe on the right side of the image that belongs on the left side of the image. Otherwise, its clear and smooth.

Since I was using this hacked version of the X driver for my Neomagic 128XD, I figure the problem is the driver itself.

I've also read that the RH was the only distro that compiled in the Xv functionality for this driver....

Now what I was wondering is:

1) Would trying to upgrade to X 4.3.0 fix this problem? (I figure it can't hurt...at least if the upgrade is successful anyway).

2) How do I find out if the functionality needed is in the binaries for say...Mandrake? in those packages...I've been googling for days on this...

3) Would it be a good idea to upgrade using URPMI (to get all the depencies worked out) and then compiling again from sources?

Of course...if there's any other solution to this driver problem that I'm not seeing, feel free to point it out...

I'll be eternally grateful.
