xmtr not working

Hi,

I was unable to get any response when I double clicked on the Traceroute icon in System tools (using RH9 with gnome). I removed and reinstalled the rpm for this and now the icon is missing from the sytem tools menu. I am unable to create a new one (as root). And, when I create a new laucher on the desktop for xmtr nothing happens. How can I get gnome to recognize this as an application. Also, when I double click on xmtr under /usr/X11R6/bin nothing happens.. I need help getting my traceroute back

PS if I run xmtr followed by hostname or IP it works
