Hi friend!
Read this carefully, and try one of their packages. SuSE's official release of xine won't do much, due to patent issues.

after i trried installing the rpms with yast, yast closes and it doesnt continue. i guess those packages dont work with suse, I've tried other suse 9.1 packages and they still didnt want 2 install. i will go as far as installing mandrake 10.0 if they dont got this xine problem, some1 must know a way.

Oh, for pete's sake, just install mPlayer. If YAST/YOU doesn't have it on the repositories, or it's not available from an unofficial SuSE repository somewhere, it's available from http://www.mplayerhq.hu. You'll have to compile that version, though.

Not a problem if you don't forget to download and extract the codecs first, and read the instructions in the README. Plays everything and its little sister (and the cousin of its little sister).

It's really not worth messing around with Xine as if its the only media player on the block, since its giving you such a hard time. Certainly not if you'd install a whole different distro just to get it working.

OH B.S.!! Mplayer does NOT play everything out there!!

if you think so, be my guest and go here and try getting the wma files to work!
http://www.unknowncountry.com/dreamland/
on the upper left column, click the link LISTEN NOW

I tried right mouse clicking on the audio file, copying link location and then pasting it into OPEN URL under FILE.

I bet it won't play for you! Cause I cannot get it to work!

Hello, you're now talking about a browser plugin-- namely mplayerplug-in, which I currently don't have installed.

However, if I could in fact download one of these files, I might well be able to play it, or if I installed the plugin that allows the mplayer backend to play various media files inside your browser (in this case, Firefox), I might also be able to play it. I'm fairly sure that mPlayer has codecs for WMP9 by now.

However, looking at the link, I'm by no means certain that one is allowed to download it in any case, and I don't think pasting the url would work, given that there's no "download" link. Meaning that it's probably protected from being downloaded, but must be streamed from the browser page, possibly involving a cookie.

Try the plugin.
