ximian installer problem

I run Red Hat 9, which came with Ximian Evolution 1.2.2 (which I use
as my email client). I figured out that there was now a 1.4, so I
decided that I should upgrade. I followed the instructions on the
ximian web site, and (as root) executed the thing that downloads and
runs their installer. BUT - at the end it says "The installer was unable to find any Ximian products for your operating system. Please report the full text of this error to <support.ximian.com/ask>. installer-ng 1.2.6 on Red Hat Linux 9"
The support web site lead to a wild goose chase, with never any
opportunity to email an actual human. I still don't know if I am even
entitled to download 1.4 for free or if I am expected to pay for it.
This was not clear from the web site, even after much searching.
In general, I found the ximian site perverse in its refusal to offer
even basic information to someone who might be interested in
using their product.

Anyway. Does anyone know what the error means, since it obviously
does not mean what it says, given that Ximian Evolution does
work on RH9 (supposedly)?

Thanks.

i had the same problem a few weeks ago: i never could download anything thru Ximian installer.
But there is also a Ximian ftp server where you can download rpms for most distribs:

ftp://ftp.ximian.com/pub/ximian-evolution

Thank you. You are beautiful.

The RPMs worked, after the usual dependency churn.
But if I've said it once, I've said it 1000 times: why
does all of this have to be so hard? Its not that linux
is trickier, or more flexible, or just comes from a different
place, philosophically than M$ windows; much of the stuff
in linux or that goes with it (like the ximian installer here)
just plain doesn't work! And it doesn't work in cryptic ways.

Feh.
