ximian desktop and open office conflicts??

I just installed the ximian desktop on my system and open office was removed. I would like to reinstall it if possible. Will this screw up the system? Why does ximian need to remove it in the first place? thanks

I found open office. Ximian removed it from the start menu. Why I cannot imagine, since it did not replace it with anything remotely resembling an office suite that I can see.
