Question Xconfigurator crashes

I have following video card :

Matrox MGA 200 Millennium with 8 MB

If I set my video card to 8 bit mode 1024*768 (with Xconfigurator), no problem , it works fine .

But when I set my video card to 16 bit mode - 1024*768 ,
video test of Xconfiguration CRASHES , I can only turn off my computer and restart (!) .

What's the problem , probably some bios setting could be wrong ?

Thank you

Could you check in your manual if there are any notes about using 16bit mode ?

you could also try a smaller resolution in 16 bit mode.. like 800x600 to test it and see if it crashes not just using 1024x768 but any other using 16 bit...
