Sorry, I'm really new to Linux. I've wanted to install it for years and finally I've been able to, so I'm excited to have it!

It was working fine until one day it started up in verbose mode (is that what it's called?). I mean the DOS-like mode with just text. I figured out the putting in the command "X" took me to X mode. But X mode won't load properly. Theres no tasks bar or icons, just "X" cusor. I was able to get back to the verbose mode using ctrl+alt+backspace. The screen is filled with messages like "Warning! Key [spc] redefined". At the bottom it says something like "Error not fatal to XServer".

I tried loading my install CD1 again and upgrading, but it didn't change anything.

try the command 'startx' (with out the quotes).
