Question Wireless not working in e17

Hello
I am using e17, and I wanted to use exalt for a network manager. I installed it correctly, loaded the module & gadget, and it worked flawlessly with wired networks. However, after scanning for wireless ones, if the network is secured it wouldn't connect to it with the correct pass, and if it was unsecured then it would claim to have connected, but no network access is present in the system. I also tried wifi-radar, but it fails to acquire IP with DHCP, and passes an invalid option -i dhcp_client to dhcpcd... So I am at a loss here, can anybody help?

Do you use wireless-tools or wpa_supplicant? What kind of security has your router?

I use wpa_supplicant, and my router has wpa2 psk2-personal with tkip/aes encryption enabled.

Could you post here what's your wpa_supplicant.conf file? What distro are you using?

I would also recommend you try this wireless manager, http://wicd.sourceforge.net/

I have two of those (wpa_supplicant.conf), the one in /etc/wpa_supplicant/ simply states:
Code:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
and the one in /etc/ is quite large so I will attach it. About wicd, I have used it before, when I used gnome as a desktop environment, but it used to give me trouble with wireless too: I had to reboot each time I change the wireless network (aka when I am outdoors and use public networks), or else it wouldn't connect. I never managed to get past this so I reverted to nm&nm-applet. However, now that I use enlightenment as desktop environment, I was hoping to get its native manager to work, as it is reported to be relatively stable. If I fail to do so I can revert to networkmanager again, although I read that it takes a little work to integrate the applet in e17. About my distro, I use Arch linux.

Your wpa_supplicat conf file is definitely long and it seems like there is nothing configured. Since you have the same router setup as I do, I will post my wpa_supplicant.conf file for you to take a look what works for me.
Code:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=0
ap_scan=1
network={
  ssid="YOUR SSID"
    psk="YOUR PASSWORD"
    # The higher the priority the sooner we are matched
    proto=WPA
    key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
    pairwise=CCMP TKIP
    priority=5
}
Take this code and save it into a file (just replace ssid and password to suit your network), name the file /etc/wpa_test.conf
Once you have done this, run as root
Code:
wpa_supplicant -Dwext -c/etc/wpa_test.conf
If you can connect with that to your router, then you can overwrite wpa_supplicant.conf with the test file.

I am assuming as well you only connect to 1 network, if you want to connect to several, you have to edit the config file accordingly to add the other networks.

Great, that did the job, many thanks . Obviously I'll have to repeat the exercise for additional networks, but it's all right as long as it works
