Segmentation fault is the error reported generally when pointer errors are done. There are many causes for this. Try installing a newer or older version. And don't run wine from the console. Run it from X.

I find that Wine segfaults if newly installed, but not configured.

Have you installed and run winesetuptk to configure Wine? Depending on your installation method, a default configuration may not have been created.

motub,
I beleive that is the problem. I have just recently installed wine, however; I don't know how to install the setup thing I think I don't have a default config file. What should I do next? It looks complicated (setting up the config file I mean), is there an easier way?

Thanx

I am lost. Do I need Debian in order to unzip "winesetuptk" . Debian is different operating system, isn't it?

Debian is not a different Operating System, it's a different distribution class of the Linux operating system.

What makes you think that you need to be using a specific distribution to use a particular Linux program? Linux programs run on the Linux OS; packaging makes them easier to install on the individual distro you're using. But Mozilla is the same Mozilla on all Linux distros, for example.

And what distribution are you using, in any case? winesetuptk is probably available via your package management system, but I can't tell you how to install it without knowing what distribution you're using, which would tell me what package management you have. You might want to edit your forum profile so that the "Distribution" field is filled in, or add a sig(nature) which would include this information.

I didn't know that ! I have fedora core 1. I think that is what you meant by distribution system.

Hy

For Fedora Core packages have the extension .rpm. This what you should serch for. There is a site where you can find most new rpms for Fedora, it is http://yarrow.freshrpms.net/.

Refering to your wine problem:
There is a HowTo you should read at http://www.winehq.com/site/howto .
Another site you shuld check out is http://www.winehq.com/site/download here you will find links to Wine prepackeged files. I myself prefer to download the sources and use ./configure
--prefix=/usr --with-x
make
sudo make install

But you can also install it as they recommend in their HowTo. It's just that it installs in the /usr/local path which may cause some problems.

Wine tools to help you install and create config files can be found at
http://franksworld.net/winetools.html

I think they realize everything. I used winesetupk but I see that there isn't any trace of it on the Internet. If you like it I could send it personally to you on e-mail but I think WineTools is a very good replacement for winesetupk.
