windows raid question

Is it possible to have Windows in raid 0 and also have a dual boot of Linux on the same two hard disks? Would I need to use the motherboard raid to do that or a different way? I would not be concerned about data loss from the raid 0 because I use Windows only for gaming.

A hardware raid controller (motherboard or pci) would allow this, as it presents the raid array as a single disk.
Software raid will not work like you want

Yes, you can get a dual boot fakeraid system to work. In fact, I only dismantled mine because my new video board seems to have a conflict with my old Promise FastTrak66. Here is a good place to start the learning process. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FakeRaidHowto

If you run into problems let me know and I'll try to help, if I can. You should also use the search key on "fakeraid" here on LQ. A lot of it depends on which distro you want to install, and whether or not support for your fakeraid device is already in the distro's kernel. In some cases, you may have to install Linux on a spare disk, then copy that to the fakeraid and activate it.
