window manager problems

Hi.

When I log into a window manager, I have a column about 50 pixels wide on the left hand side that is not used. The entire GUI environment is shifted to the right. This didn't happen when I just used X as the wm, but when I use KDE or Enlightenment, the problem pops up. When I'm in the command line environement, the problem doesn't exist.

I can fix the problem in a limited sense using screen configurations on the monitor itself, but for some reason a "limit is reached" before I can scoot the screen to the left all the way. I'd like a nice clean software solution, since I don't have the problem when I boot into Windows XP and changing the monitor configuration would mess with that up.

Can anyone help?

thanks,

bender

Might try 'xvidtune' or otherwise tweaking your X config. Also, if you're using an nvidia card and using nv, you might want the nvidia drivers or vice versa. I've noticed the two drivers being off-kilter to each other, sliding my display a little to one side, too. There's also a HOWTO by ESR about tweaking every detail by hand - usually not necessary anymore, but maybe still useful if you're having problems.

Sorry, don't have a magic answer, but those may give you things to follow up and experiment with.
