Window manager problems

I'm using XFCE and whenever I move a window everything stops, this isn't that bad as mostly things keep going afterwards. It used to happen in XMMS but now for some reason it has become worse and instead of carrying on after moving a window it stops, and then crashes. This also happened when I installed beep-media-player (possibly starting at this time). Any ideas?

Thanks.

EDIT:

1) XFCE 4.2.0
2) XMMS/Beep-media-player crashes - just stops all activity, other processes pause while window is being moved but resume afterwards
3) ATI Radeon
4) No compositor
5) ati-driver 8.8.25-r3 in portage
6) 2.6.10-gentoo-r7 self-compiled
7) Xorg 6.8.2

This isn't specific enough.
1.) What version of Xfce? (xfwm4 --version)
2.) Please describe the crash, how and why do you kill X when it happens?
3.) What display adapter (gfx card) do you use?
4.) Are you using the compositor (if you don't know, you aren't)?
5.) What version of any proprietary gfx drivers are you using?
6.) What kernel version? (uname -a)
7.) What version of X11? (X -version)

Ok, gentoo, that raises a new question. What cc flags are you using?
