What I need to host forum?


What I need to install on Linux to be able to move my forum to my own Linux server at hime?
I use Ubuntu Linux.

Is there any tutorial on that?

Also is my connection of 4mbps of download an 640kbps of upload (max) enought to run forum and few PDF uploads&downloads ??

You'd need a web server (e.g. Apache), some kind of forum software (vB, phpBB, etc), the appropriate scripting software for the forum (like PHP itself) and a database (e.g. MySQL). I think that's probably the minimum. I don't know about bandwidth, or any tutorials though.. sorry!

Simply using Synaptic, you should be able to install Apache, PHP, and MySQL. As for the forum software, you have to install that manually. Most of them have automatic installation scripts that initialize the needed MySQL databases and whatnot. As for bandwidth, that really depends on how popular you expect the forum to get. What you have should be sufficient, but, depending on the maximum number of users you expect to recieve at a time, you may need external hosting.
