Weird juk error--won't play songs but xmms will??

when I start juk it loads fine and It plays mp3's...then all of a sudden, when it finishes a song...or if i change the song quickly...it stops playing and refuses to play a song...

when I run juk from a terminal...I get these messages.

mcop warning: user defined signal handler found for SIG_PIPE, overriding
unix_connect: can't connect to server (unix:/tmp/mcop-djileum/shamwood_celtland_lan-07e3-3fd695a9)

xmms and gaim, amsn, etc..all play music just fine...

when I run ps -ax..I notice this entry:

PID TTY STAT TIME COMMAND
2255 ? Z 0:00 [play] <defunct>

when i try to do kill -9 2255 nothing returns but the entry persists
same thing if sudo'ed...doesn't get killed.

I tried restarting alsa...it takes a bit.

sudo /sbin/service alsa restart

fails since it says that pid 2255 is using the sound dirvers (or something like that)

force-restart works on teh 2nd or 3rd try...once when I force-stopped alsa and started it up...i got a shreek sounding noise that didn't go away until i restarted.

BTW restarting fixes this and juk will play once more but this is an annoying solution......

anyone?

Me too...

I'm having the same problem, now that I have upgraded from Mandrake 9.2 to 10.0.

xmms will play mp3's fine. (It didn't at first, but adding mpg123 fixed that.) But, JuK still will not create any sound output, nor does its timer move forward.

Did you ever fix your problem?
