vncserver + slackware10

has anybody tried installing vnc on slackware10?
whenever i try to run vncserver after installing it, i get the following message
"vncserver: couldn't find "xauth" on your PATH."
i am sure that i have xauth, its in /usr/X11R6/bin
I have tried setting the path to that, but the same error message continues appearing...

does anybody have a solution to this ?
thanks in advance

Type $PATH to find your current path. And are you trying to run it as root or another user?
