Video Playback Failing

When attempting to play a movie file in mplayer I will get either a
Quote:
MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: decode_audio
or
Quote:
MPlayer interrupted by signal 4 in module: decode_video
Followed by a nice message saying MPlayer crashed and that I should debug.

I'll explain the background a little.

I'm making a PVR, and plan to run MythTV on it. I have an Athlon 2000, an ATI radeon 7000, on board sound out(asus motherboard) and a Hauppauge PVR250. I installed FC3 and set it up according to Jareds guide, at Wilsonet.com.

After some fooling around. I got everything installed and working. So I tested out the LiveTV. After an hour or so, it would fail with a segmentation fault. No other output was giving.

After trying, in vain, to get it to work, I decided to try streaming the video from /dev/video straight to MPlayer. After awhile, MPlayer crashed with the decode_audio message mentioned before. I tried several more times, but it would always crash with either the decode_audio or decode_video message.

Finally, I decided to try playing back a plain MPEG movie. That too, failed with the same results. I tried an avi, which failed the same way.

I have noticed that it seems to fail a lot quicker if I turn on full screen, but it may just be my imagination.

I am running the video driver that came with FC3 for the Radeon 7000, which x.org says is "radeon".

I'm really not sure what to do. Since I get both decode_audio and decode_video errors, it seems that it wouldn't be directly related to either the video card or the sound card.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have heard that things worked smoother on FC2, would moving to that be a better option that trying to fix this mess?

Thanks,
Johnnabn
