using GRUB to access a partition

Hi,
I'm using debian sid and I need to access to a partition on another PC. I've tried putting GRUB on a floppy-disk to do it. But it doesn't work. I just see a GRUB and no more. This is the grub.conf
title=PriWin
root (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1
and then I had given: grub-install /dev/fd0
someone have told me to copy it in /boot/grub/menu.lst nothing was changed

Someone can help me? I just need to boot that WinXP partition.
Thanks

If you see a prompt like this:

grub>

then you can type the commands you have in the file manaully:

grub>root (hd0,0)
grub>makeactive
grub>chainloader +1
grub>boot

Then the os on hd0,0 (hda1) should start loading.

This morning I've tried to make GRUB ride on a floppy with:
# cd /usr/share/grub/i386-pc
# dd if=stage1 of=/dev/fd0 bs=512 count=1
# dd if=stage2 of=/dev/fd0 bs=512 seek=1
but when I put the floppy there was a read error on stage two. but maybe I have had copied the file from /boot directory. Now I've do it again, and the boot prompt appeared!
I've digited the commands and the winzoz XP starts it's setup.
Problem solved.
Thanks ;-)
