User lag for KDE functionality

Hello. I just recently started using KDE, and it works perfectly fine with root, but when I created a new user, the user has laggy / sluggish responses when using a KDE related function (such as making the main panel hide- that takes close to 30 seconds. The kmenu takes about seven seconds to open on its own)

I tried deleting the user and creating a new, but the new user has the same problems. Any advice?

Distro: Slackware 10.2
Machine: VAIO VGN-S580

Edit: Something interesting.. when I click the hide button, or the kmenu button, and then right click, it performs normally? I don't know if this is relevant but hopefully it'll help.

Thanks!
